Question 7 planning

I decided to use PowerPoint to display this information because i could easily screen shot my work to post it on my blog. You can crop and change and move images on PowerPoint very easily which is a big advantages over some thong like Microsoft Word.

Question 6

Question 6 Planning

I used Prezi again to present my answer as i think its the most effective presentation method to use for evaluation questions. Its much more visually interesting than just a plain blog answer in my opinion.

Question 5

Question 5 planning

I chose to do the question on PowToon because it a good way to present the information. You can also add a sound track because you can then upload it to YouTube .This also allows me to be able to embed the video into my blog as a post.

Question 4

Question 4 planning

I am choosing to use slide share to present my answer to this question because it allows you to present lots of information effectively. The website allows a PowerPoint presentation to be put on my blog.

Question 3

Question 3 planning

I decided to use Prezi for this question as i felt that it is a good way to present information easily and efficiently. Its more visually interesting than just seeing a block of text . One reason for this is because You actually have to interact by clicking with the program rather tans just watching a screen.

Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups? The first social group the audience encounters is the representation of women. The  typical stereotype for women is that they don't go out to work and staying being a motherly figure. Also they are shown in the media as stereotypically weaker and more vulnerable than men. They are of a lower class. We chose to use this typical stereotype throughout our piece because it fits with our plot. Because the main theme of our thriller is stalking , it makes sense to have the woman as weak and vulnerable. It would be extremely unusual to have a man as the victim but i suppose this could make the product stand out . The way we created this representation is by having the girl on the floor this connotes weakness we helped exaggerate this factor by filming some shot from above to make her seem even smaller/weaker. We put tape on her mouth and hand to show the fact that she is trapped and helpless, it also victimises he

Question 2 planning

For question to I am choosing to just use blogger its self. This is suitable for this question because i will be typing up my evaluation of the social groups.

Question 1

Image
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 1 planning

I chose to use PowerPoint to present question 1 because on it you can move / manipulate images very easily. As a result i was able to get the pictures into the 9 frame grid shape and produce a grid of writing using text boxes.

Final cut

Image
REFLECTION I am very pleased with the outcome of the final product. Its better than i ever though i could achieve especially having never done media before this year. I found the experience of the whole process quite challenging at times but also rewarding at others. I have never done anything like this before so it was all new but i quite enjoyed the main part of it like the editing.

Before finding this soundtrack we were looking at stalker type music but it didn't seem to fit with the hum and the footage. We finally decided on this soundtrack because it works really well juxtaposing the mood/tone created in our opening sequence. Its a positive sound track that with the hum has an underlying dark mood created. The fact that some scenes are high key and some are low key help the soundtrack fit very well. Luckily it has a very effective ending to the track and we were able to position it so that its ended our sequence.

Second cut feedback.

NEXT STEPS / SUGGESTIONS Although the soundtrack was liked by many some thought it would be more effective if more sound were layered on top, for example footsteps, screams and muffling. Someone suggested that we have the name of the film (Obsession) come on after the candle has been blown out so that it appears on a black screen rather than having it coming on whilst its still lit. Another suggestion was that instead of calling the ident Uncertain Production we call it Uncertain Studios, as it rolls of the tounge better.

We were going to use the dream font for our titles in the opening sequence, when we realised that when it appeared it was glowing. I think that this completely kills the mood/atmosphere so we found the font called grunge, we thought that conventionally it suited the genre. The colour we have chosen seems to be legible on all of the shots we are putting the titles on.

First cut feedback

After listening to the comments below we decided that our next steps will be to add sound to our clip, for example a soundtrack or effects. We will also decide where and put the titles and eye-dents in. We will also be working on making sure that the viewer is kept entertained by doing things like shortening some of the walking scenes and changing the duration of the transitions to give more of an effect. Strengths Weaknesses The mood and atmosphere created was effective. The cam recorder filter fitted well with the chosen shots. The filter we put on when editing worked well. The bruise we created with eye shadow was very realistic. The contrast between the high and low key shots is good but also the order of the shots. Fade transitions worked well especially for. There is a clear narrative. Questions are raised – this is a convention of the thriller genre. There was no audio so it made some of the shots see

We had a slight issue with the brightness of Peters face in this scene, we wanted to darken it a little bit. After failing to brighten his face with several final cut tools we found the vignette function. This highlights the centre of the picture , this worked quite well as the thing we wanted to darken was at the edge of the shot (his face).

Editing update 2

We wanted a transition from the hand holding scene to the dark scene where Imogen is tied up to keep the continuity. The first transitions we tried didn't look very processional, they looked more like something you would put in a PowerPoint presentation. The names of these transitions were colour planes ,zoom blur and divider as you can see in the images above. In the end we decided to use the dissolve effect for the transition, as this was more subtle.

After importing all the clips into final cut pro we noticed that all of the shrine clips were extremely hard to see due to their brightness. To fix this we edited the colour so it is clear to see. we did this by pressing the balance colour button. You can see the huge improvement that was made from the two images below.

Filming the shrine scenes

Image
Even though not all of the group were available to help film we managed to get the shots we needed. Also we were able to find a suitable location to film the shrine scenes. However the lighting was difficult to get right , the majority of the lighting came from the candles that were lit underneath the shrine. This worked particularly well as we wanted low key lighting. Although we weren't able to get all the photos for the shrine we wanted, the shots were still possible.

Filming the scenes where Imogen is tied up.

Image
The bruising we created went well as you can see in the first two pictures. We managed to get most of the shots we wanted in the time we had . The lighting was controlled by using the window shutters. the lighting played a big part in setting the mood in these scenes. The teamwork was better as this was the second time of filming so we are getting used to working together as a group.  Even though lots went well we struggled to have enough time to film the shrine scenes so we are going to do those on a later date.

Filming the park scenes

Image
The majority of the filming went to plan however we forgot the mini tripod so we had to work around this issue by laying the normal sized tripod on the floor like you see in the last photo. despite the obstacle we were able to get the worms eye view shots. The lighting was perfect because we went at the right time of day, we were able to find a good spot with a bench and a tree close by. This is exactly what we needed for our park scenes, especially when Peter is watching them from behind a tree.
